Assembly Instructions

For maximum dynamic performance, the inner and outer damper springs are specially designed to be fitted a fixed fitted length.
For optimum performance the outer spring should be fitted at a free length of 1.330” 33.78mm. The springs are designed with a step between the outer and inner spring and the inner spring fitted length is shorter by 0.197” 5.00mm..
Max Valve Stroke = 0.440” 11.17mm
Important Note - The Damper Coils (coils with the reduced pitch) must be position towards the engine block / spring seat and away from the valve retainer, to reduce the active mass of the spring. If the parts are incorrectly orientated, they will not operate correctly. Incorrect assembly could be detrimental to performance and could result in early component failure.

Optimizing Valve Spring Design and Process Technology for the Winning Formula

It only takes minute improvements to make the difference between failure and success." That is the approach we take to optimise our very high-performance engine valve springs. Using the latest in design, materials and processing technology we go that extra mile to ensure the absolute best is achieved. There is no compromise!
The process starts with the design process. The spring designer's problems are exacerbated by the incredibly high turbo boost pressures requiring very high seat pressures. Amongst all this, somehow the spring has to maintain control and keep the valve in contact with the head and avoid coil surge in very free revving environment.
Introducing our specially designed damping springs, helps to maximise the damping properties, thus altering the natural frequency during the compression cycle reducing resonance. The damper coils are fitted to the spring seat to lower moving mass of the valve train system. The latest in 3D design and finite element analysis is used to ensure the spring shape is optimised exactly to the specific requirements of the engine.

Other improvements come from using the latest material technologies. For many years Silicon Chrome Vanadium (SiCrV) high tensile materials have been available. Now with the addition of alloys such as Nickel (Ni), Molybdenum (Mo) and Tungsten (W), ultra-high tensile materials are available for the ultimate in fatigue life and relaxation performance. Wire manufacturing processes such as shaving of the surface and the use of super-clean raw rod, with very low non-metallic inclusion levels near the surface, ensure the best possible material quality.

During processing of the springs, every detail is taken to ensure the compressive surface residual stress of the springs is maximised to ensure the life of the springs is maximised. Advanced processes such as Nitriding, Shot Peening, Micro Peening and Super Polishing are all worked into the formula.

Finally, every part is individually inspected to ensure the physical characteristics fully match the specifications. Painstaking visual checks are also carried out to remove the risk of the minutest of imperfections on the surface, before packing and shipping to the customer.
